Middle East College (MEC) recently organized the TaMECon 2019 competition on the 11th of June 2019 at the college premises, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM). TaMECon is an initiative that was launched by MEC in 2017 to provide its students with a platform to showcase their entrepreneurial ideas and talents. It gives them the experience of pitching their innovative business ideas within the given time frame. The event was well received by the community with participation from students and alumni. The judges for the event were Dr. Hadi Al Obthani, an Expert in Management Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Abdullah Al Barashdi, Assistant Manager, Oman Academy for SMEs. Karima Al Amri won the first prize for her idea \u2018Reverse Vending Machine\u2019. The second prize was given to Aisha Al Azri for her idea \u2018InKom\u2019, followed by Syed Riyadul Mahi who won the third prize for his idea \u2018Rent App\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nKarima Al Amri, a student of Electronics and Telecommunication programme, expressed her happiness in winning the first prize in TaMECon. She said: \u201cI participated in TaMECon and it was a new and fascinating experience for me! We had to prepare a proposal for our business ideas and pitch the concept to others. I am happy to have won the first prize in the competition for my idea \u2018Reverse Vending Machine\u2019 which is an environment friendly machine. I look forward to participating in more such academic activities and competitions that could help the students, to showcase their talents and skills\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nTaMECon initiative comes as part of MEC\u2019s efforts in developing the entrepreneurial and business skills in its students. The college encourages the students to initiate their own startup companies and contribute towards the development of the community.
