The Centre for Academic Writing (CAW) was established in Fall 2014 to provide academic writing support for post-Foundation students pursuing UG and PG courses at MEC. This support is provided through various mechanisms including writing support for selected modules through scheduled contact hours, consultations for individual students, weekly workshops, and customized workshop series as requested by departments.
The language support and learning materials provided by CAW are based on the writing requirements of the coursework in each module and are planned in consultation with the respective module leaders and faculty teaching the allocated modules. The one-to-one consultations for students include guidance for writing their assignments such as project reports, case studies and others. Students who seek help for their assignments involving academic writing can book multiple appointments with the CAW faculty, through the SIS. Weekly workshops are conducted by CAW for all Diploma, UG and PG students, which are mostly generic in nature. CAW also conducts customized workshops requested by academic departments.
CAW offers services to MEC staff by conducting academic writing workshops through the Centre for Academic Practices (CAP), reviewing staff documents and research articles and reviewing institutional documents, the newsletter, and other documents from the Media Communication and Admissions Department.
The main objective of the Centre for Academic Writing is to offer continuous support to undergraduate and post-graduate students to facilitate improvement in the quality of their academic writing.
