Learning beyond Time and Space: The Future of ELT

Many countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region have adopted English as the language of instruction and assessment in higher education. Competence in the English language is an essential requirement for a successful academic and professional life. However, the language proficiency of Arab EFL learners entering tertiary education is often inadequate to meet the requirements of their undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The problem has been further compounded by the constraints imposed during the pandemic in the last two years. The EFL community had to transition to online modes of education with synchronous and asynchronous learning activities. The emerging pedagogies and learner practices need to be accommodated in the post-pandemic era where technology plays a very important and critical role. English language teachers are still being confronted with the fundamental challenge of transforming these language learners into agile, independent, self-directed and autonomous ones.

The 3rd MEC TESOL conference continues the tradition of  providing a platform for English language academics and researchers to reflect, share, and publish their language teaching experiences, challenges, and success stories. The conference is organized in Hyflex (hybrid-flexible; combination of online and on-campus) mode to facilitate access to a wider audience.
