										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Middle East College is pleased to host a national-level specialist workshop entitled &#8216;Industry-Led Quantity Take-Off &#038; Bills of Quantities (BOQ)&#8217; on Thursday, 21 May 2026, Led by a distinguished panel of industry experts, this workshop is designed for students of the Quantity Surveying and Construction Management programme and graduates throughout the Sultanate of Oman. </p>
<p>The workshop aims to provide students with direct, practical exposure to real-world practices within the construction and built environment sector. Through expert-led sessions, participants will engage with specialised topics encompassing quantity take-off techniques, the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQ) in accordance with industry standards, and construction contract fundamentals. By bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, the workshop enhances students&#8217; technical competencies, deepens their understanding of professional procedures, and exposes them to contemporary trends within the construction sector. </p>
<p>Through this specialised training, students will develop essential employability skills including problem-solving, analytical thinking, and professional communication, thereby enhancing their confidence and readiness for internship placements and career advancement. The workshop thus contributes to the development of industry-ready graduates equipped to make meaningful contributions to Oman&#8217;s expanding construction sector. </p>
<p>Workshop Objectives: </p>
<p>Practical Knowledge of Quantity Take-Off: Equipping students with practical knowledge of quantity take-off and measurement techniques employed in real construction projects. </p>
<p>BOQ Preparation Skills: Developing competency in the preparation of Bills of Quantities in accordance with industry standards. </p>
<p>Construction Contract Fundamentals: Introducing students to the essential principles of construction contracts, including key contractual terms, stakeholder responsibilities, and required documentation. </p>
<p>Bridging Academia and Industry: Narrowing the divide between academic learning and industry practice through expert-led instruction and exposure to current industry developments. </p>
<p>Enhancing Professional Competence: Strengthening students&#8217; technical competence, cognitive skills, employability attributes, and career awareness within the construction industry. </p>

This strategic initiative, led by the Alumni Engagement Office, was designed to foster robust connections between experienced alumni and recent graduates, thereby facilitating a seamless transition from academic life to the professional sphere.</p>

<p>The SELAH Mentorship Programme is a structured, eight-week initiative that paired ten distinguished alumni mentors with fourteen recent MEC graduates. The programme provided a dynamic platform for professional development and collaborative growth through direct, one-to-one mentorship.</p>
<p>Programme Structure and Mechanism</p>
<p>Mentors and mentees were meticulously matched based on their academic backgrounds and relevant professional expertise, ensuring a synergistic and effective partnership. Each pair was committed to completing six hours of structured consultation and guidance sessions throughout the programme&#8217;s duration.</p>
<p>A core component of the programme involved mentors guiding their mentees in the formulation of a comprehensive Individual Development Plan (IDP), which outlined three distinct, measurable, and achievable professional goals. The engagement was conducted through a hybrid model, incorporating both in-person and online sessions, with continuous monitoring by the Alumni Engagement Office to uphold the quality of interaction and ensure adherence to the programme’s objectives.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Muscat, Knowledge Oasis – 7 January 2026<br />
Middle East College concluded yesterday the proceedings of its annual Carnival 2026, which was organised and executed by the Student Advisory Council over two consecutive days replete with cultural, recreational, and educational activities, within a celebratory environment that brought together all members of the college community, including students, academic staff, and administrative personnel.</p>
<p>Comprehensive and Extended Programme<br />
The activities spanned 6 and 7 January 2026 within the college facilities, where the Student Advisory Council managed to deliver an integrated educational and recreational programme that diversified between cultural, artistic, and interactive activities, garnering active participation from students and academic and administrative staff.</p>
<p>Food Stations and Interactive Environment<br />
The carnival was distinguished by the deployment of diverse food stations throughout various areas of the campus, offering an extensive array of culinary options that were well received by attendees, within an interactive carnival environment filled with vibrancy, colours, and live music.</p>
<p>Performing Arts and Interactive Educational Experience<br />
Effect Oman presented live performing arts shows that imparted a distinctive character to the carnival, with performances ranging between musical renditions and theatrical arts, thereby enriching the aesthetic experience for attendees and creating an elevated celebratory environment.</p>
<p>In a distinctive educational initiative, Palmera Botanical Garden provided a live interactive petting zoo experience, enabling participants from various age groups to engage directly with animals within a purposeful educational and recreational framework that enhances environmental awareness.</p>
<p>Musical Artistic Performances in the Auditorium<br />
The college auditorium hosted a series of musical artistic performances, where students and participating artists delivered diverse artistic renditions that showcased creative talents and enriched the cultural climate of the carnival, thereby reflecting the artistic and cultural diversity of the student community.<br />
Automotive Exhibition</p>
<p>The car exhibition, held on the evening of 7 January, constituted a principal attraction within the carnival activities, where the exhibition showcased a selection of distinguished automobiles and celebrated automotive culture and technological advancement, thereby attracting the interest of specialists and enthusiasts alike.</p>
<p>Student Leadership and Effective Institutional Management<br />
The Student Advisory Council at Middle East College assumed comprehensive oversight of the strategic planning system, executive coordination, and operational management of the carnival, thereby reflecting the leadership and organisational competencies that students possess in managing major institutional projects with high professionalism and expertise. The events witnessed notable attendance from the student community numbering over 4,000 students, in addition to members of both the academic and administrative staff.</p>
<p>Reinforcing the Values of a Cohesive Academic Community<br />
The activities reflected the educational value system of institutional harmony and communication amongst the various categories of the academic community at Middle East College, where the carnival brought together students from 27 different nationalities with members of the academic and administrative cadres in one event, thereby consolidating the values of institutional belonging and active community participation.</p>
<p>Institutional Commitment to Comprehensive Student Development<br />
The success of the carnival embodies Middle East College&#8217;s steadfast commitment to the methodology of student empowerment and the development of leadership competencies and organisational skills through delegating the responsibility of organising major institutional events to students. The college, accredited by the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQA) with the highest classifications, continues to provide over 700 extracurricular and co-curricular activities annually within its strategic vision of </p>
<p>&#8220;Transforming Education for the World of Work&#8221;.<br />

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Middle East College (MEC) marked a significant milestone in its journey of academic and technological advancement by hosting the inauguration ceremony of the </span><b>“Hadatha Centre for Cybersecurity Industry.”</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This pioneering initiative stems from a strategic collaboration between MEC and the </span><b>Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT)</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">, represented by the </span><b>Arab Regional Cybersecurity Centre</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">. The ceremony, held at the College campus, took place under the patronage of </span><b>His Excellency Dr Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">, Undersecretary of MTCIT for Communications and Information Technology.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The newly established Centre, headquartered at MEC, aims to enhance national capabilities in the cybersecurity sector, offer </span><b>specialised</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> training and professional development for Omani talent, and support emerging </span><b>start-ups</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> in this vital field.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Speaking at the event, </span><b>His Excellency Dr Al Shidhani</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> emphasised that the initiative aligns with the Ministry’s continuous efforts to strengthen partnerships with the private sector and academic institutions.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“The objective is to develop national competencies in the communications and information technology sector, in line with the goals of the </span><b>Digital Economy Programme</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and </span><b>Oman Vision 2040</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">,” he said.</span></p>
<p><b>Aziza Sultan Al Rashdi</b><span style="font-weight: 400;">, representative of the Hadatha Centres, highlighted the collaborative spirit behind the project, stating:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Hadatha Centres aim to partner with government entities, the private sector, and academic institutions to provide a platform for researchers and innovators to design and implement advanced cybersecurity technologies and solutions. This will contribute to developing national industries, generating local products, and creating economic opportunities for the Omani community.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She added that Middle East College is the </span><b>first private higher education institution in Oman</b><span style="font-weight: 400;"> to host a Hadatha Centre for Cybersecurity Industry, having met advanced readiness criteria and demonstrated strong institutional capabilities to activate this strategic partnership.</span></p>
