Middle East College launches Oman’s first work-integrated programme

In a significant step towards transforming education for the world of work, Middle East College has officially launched its BEng (Hons) in Software Engineering, under the auspices of Eng. Said bin Abdullah Al Mandhari, CEO of ITHCA Group. This pioneering programme offered in collaboration with KALVIUM, is the first of its kind in Oman, integrating academic study with real-world industry experience.

What sets this programme apart is its work-integrated learning structure. From the second year, students engage in paid internships with leading Fortune 500 companies, big brands, and innovative start-ups. This approach not only allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios but also prepares them with critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are crucial in today’s technology-driven job market. Furthermore, the programme empowers students to graduate with up to three years’ work experience.

Eng. Said bin Abdullah Al Mandhari, who in his speech, praised the college’s efforts in aligning education with industry needs. He stated “Middle East College is setting a benchmark in Oman’s higher education sector with such innovative educational models that prepare students for successful careers. At the pace at which the technology is advancing these days, I believe that work integrated learning is an absolute necessity and it is one of the effective ways to make students ready for the dynamic job market”.

Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, the programme aims to foster a knowledge-based economy and enhance graduates’ employability. It supports the Omanisation drive by equipping students with industry-relevant skills, thus building a globally competitive and innovative workforce. This alignment ensures that the programme contributes to students’ personal growth and also to the sustainable economic development and diversification of Oman.

Students of the BEng (Hons) in Software Engineering programme benefit from direct exposure to industry projects, gaining career-ready skills and opportunities to connect with professionals.
