BSc in Archives and Records Management is a contemporary ‘Archives Science’ integrated programme that combines the requirements of records management and the classical archives methods. The programme is designed to elevate your employability and open doors to exciting career opportunities in information management. You’ll graduate with the essential skills and expertise to excel in diverse industries that require effective record-keeping and information organisation.

In the GCC region, including Oman, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, the demand for professionals in archives and records management is growing as organisations recognise the value of proper information governance and compliance. Your proficiency in this field will make you a highly sought-after professional in these progressive economies, where efficient data management and preservation are essential for organisational success.

Those who wish to pursue careers as archivists (digital and manual), digital asset managers, database librarians, electronic records managers, or metadata specialists in libraries, cultural institutions, government agencies, publishing houses, health care organisations, and consumer utility organisations will need this qualification.

Eligibility Criteria

Students seeking admission to the programme should possess a General Education Diploma from Sultanate of Oman or its equivalent qualification approved By Ministry of Education, the Sultanate of Oman and a General Foundation Programme completion certificate.

Students who do not have GFP Certificate will have to take MEC Placement Tests to determine their proficiency levels in Math and Computing. The Applied Math and Computing components are tested in Arabic. Depending on their proficiency levels reflected in the Placement Tests, students will be placed in appropriate levels in Math and Computing. These two GFP modules can be taken by the students together with the credit bearing modules in ARM programme during the semester.
Computing component of the GFP can be exempted if the candidate has successfully completed the ICDL or IC3 or any equivalent international diploma in IT skills.
Mathematics component in the GFP (General and Pure Mathematics/Applied Mathematics) modules can be exempted:
– If the candidate secures pass score in Paper 1 of Test of Mathematics for University Admission-TMUA or
– If the candidate secures 3/pass/satisfactory score in Paper 1 of Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP)
A score of 60% in Math and computing component in the MEC placement test would enable the student for exemption from General Foundation Programme.

Application Process

Applying as a :

Step 1: Choose a programme

Talk to our Admission Counsellors and choose the desired programme of study at MEC. Gather information about the admission requirements, eligibility criteria, and application deadlines.

Step 2: Apply Online

Complete the online application form provided by MEC, ensuring that all required fields are accurately filled in. Apply along with the necessary documents, such as educational certificates, transcripts, identification proof, and other supporting documents specified.

Step 3: Documents Screening

The admissions team will review and assess the submitted documents to determine the applicant’s eligibility. This step ensures that all required documents are in order and meet the MEC’s admission criteria.

Step 4: Placement Test

Qualified applicants will be required to undertake a placement test. The purpose of this test is to assess the applicant's knowledge and skills in English Language, Mathematics and Computing.

Step 5: Complete Pre-enrolment

Once the applicant completes the document screening and placement test, they will be notified about the status of their application.

Step 6: Enrollment

Pay the admission fee or present a scholarship letter if awarded one. After fulfilling the requirements, the applicant is officially enrolled at Middle East College.

Step 1: Pre-Admission Requirements

1. Educational certificates that are not issued in English or Arabic have to be translated by certified translators or reputable agencies. Get the translated certificates attested at the embassy of your home country in Oman or the Omani Embassy in your home country to validate their authenticity.
2. Submit the attested translated certificates to the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Foreign/External Affairs in your home country for further verification.
3. Obtain an equivalency letter from the Omani Ministry of Education. This letter confirms that your educational qualifications are compatible and equivalent to the Omani education system.

Qualified applicants must undertake the MEC Placement Test or produce equivalent certificates as mentioned in the entry requirements section. The purpose of the test is to assess the applicant's knowledge and skills in English Language, Mathematics and Computing.

Once the applicant completes the document screening and placement test, they will be notified about the status of their application.

Step 7: Enrollment

Pay the admission fee or present a scholarship letter if awarded one. After fulfilling the requirements, the applicant is officially enrolled at Middle East College.

Can I succeed at MEC ? I’m not sure that my preparation is adequate.

As a college student, you will find it’s essential to keep up with your daily and weekly work. If you do not understand something in a textbook or lecture, ask your instructor for help as soon as possible. If your work begins to pile up, the academic associate dean of your college can help you reorganize your study plan or obtain special help — don’t hesitate to reach out.

Will I get credit for my Advanced Placement (AP) scores?

The college coursework completed by high school students is equivalent to courses offered by MEC. (Decisions on comparability will be made by the Office of the Registrar and the faculty of the University) The courses are applicable to the degree at that college (i.e., that they were not simply enrichment courses for high school students). The subject matter was comparable to that offered at MEC. You do not duplicate the course by taking a similar one at MEC.

What is the difference between a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degree?

The Bachelor of Arts degree represents a broad sampling of the liberal arts and sciences, with a concentration in one discipline (the major), much of which is taken during the junior and senior years. The Bachelor of Science degree (in the natural sciences and mathematics, education, management and various branches of engineering) provides a greater emphasis in the major field, usually beginning in the first year.
