Eligibility Criteria
The minimum entry requirement is a High School Diploma or its equivalent.
Placement Test:
New applicants must take the MEC Placement Test unless they hold a recognized GFP certificate or equivalent. A score of 60% or above in any PT component grants exemption from the related module (English Level 3, Mathematics, or IT). For English exemption, candidates must also score 60% or more in a separate Listening and Speaking test; otherwise, they are placed in English Level 3.
Applicants with an IELTS score of 5.5+ or equivalent (as approved by the Ministry of Higher Education Research and Innovation) are exempt from the English component. Those with valid ICDL/ECDL/IC3 or TMUA/STEP Paper 1 certificates are exempt from IT or Mathematics, respectively. Candidates who completed GFP modules at other institutions may receive exemptions upon review of transcripts and equivalency with MEC GFP modules.
Assessments:
Students are assessed through a combination of formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments provide continuous feedback and help students identify and bridge gaps in their learning before attempting the summative assessments, which determine the final grade. Summative assessments are marked out of 100, and a minimum score of 50 is required to pass and progress to the next level.
Students may register for a combination of English, Mathematics, and Computing modules at different levels, depending on whether they meet the prerequisite requirements. For example, a student might be enrolled in English 2, Mathematics 1, and Introduction to IT. It is mandatory to complete or be exempted from English 1 before registering for any other General Foundation Programme (GFP) module.
To be eligible for final exams, students must attend at least 75% of their classes. Submitting certificates (e.g., medical or work-related) does not grant special attendance. Attendance is based on actual sessions conducted during the semester.
