Department of Management Studies at Middle East College (MEC) organized a Guest Lecture on “Lean Management- Philosophy and Practical Insights” which was delivered by Mr. Naveen Narayanan, Managing Director, SSA international LLC, Sultanate of Oman on 19th November 2018. About twenty faculty members from the Department of Management Studies attended the programme.
Mr. Naveen was welcomed and introduced by Dr. Elango Rengasamy, Head, Department of Management Studies to the participants. In his lecture, Mr. Naveen emphasized that Lean Management would be an ideal solution to eliminate “Wastages” in all forms in organizations. He further emphasized the need to introduce ‘lean culture’ in every organization in order to improve efficiency and profitability. He pinpointed the need to gradually reduce wastages in processes and procedures and strongly advocated in favor of scissoring any aspect which does not add value to the organization or its customers. He informed the audience that Lean Management came into existence at Ford in the early 1900s later perfected at Toyota Corporation, Japan.
He emphasized that Lean Management practices played a crucial role in Japan’s post World War II economic miracle and to this day is at the heart of Japan’s global competitiveness strategies. In his talk, Mr. Naveen discussed a few interesting cases where companies and organizations benefited by implementing lean practices. He also shared his experiences of resolving issues through lean management practices leading to long-term value addition to his clients and also the good practices followed across leading global companies. His interactive talk brought a new insight and enlightened the participants about the Lean Management.
The session concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Assistant Head, Department of Management Studies Dr. Faustino Taderera.
