Middle East College (MEC) organized the 2nd MEC Teaching and Learning Symposium for 4 weeks from May to June 2018 on campus, at Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM). The symposium covered several themes including Employability, Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Sustainability, Research-Teaching Nexus, Internationalization, Programme Focused Teaching and Learning, Innovative Pedagogies, Assessment and Feedback Practices. Various activities and events were organized throughout the month for the teaching faculty such as an exhibition of research and practices, panel discussion focusing on the emerging trends in teaching and learning and an inter-departmental competition on the symposium themes. The event played a major role in promoting learning and sharing practices amongst the MEC staff.
Dr. Kiran G. R, Dean of Middle East College, highlighted the need to reflect on continuous innovation in teaching and learning and the importance of sharing such teaching practices that could enhance the students’ learning experience. He pointed out that “MEC has been engaging in some of the most innovative and student-led teaching and learning practices in the region. The annual Teaching and Learning Symposium provides a forum where such good practices are shared across the institution, and excellence in teaching and learning by departments and individuals is acknowledged and awarded”.
MEC constantly attempts to adopt various up-to-date teaching and learning techniques to prepare its students for the work environment and also buildup their skills in problem-solving, critical and forward-thinking, to help them become productive and creative members of the society. The college has also initiated various professional partnerships and collaborations with different institutions around the world to enrich the students’ experience at MEC.
