Construction Industry is often labelled as an industry of adversarial nature. This industry encompasses individuals from a varied educational and professional training background with diverse mind-set. Hence, they have different perceptions for the similar problems and situations. This leads to issues like delay in construction, cost escalation, substandard construction quality, variations etc. Hence, it is very important to have a judicious control of the cost time and quality.
Considering the above factors, Middle East College in partnership with Coventry University has taken the initiative to offer the ‘Master of Science (MSc) Programme in Construction Project and Cost Management’. The programme address to the rapid cultural change in the construction industry towards less adversarial approaches to project management and continuing professional development. The course will attract a wider range of construction professionals engaged in construction/project management, quantity surveying, civil and structural engineering, architectural technology, surveying and building services engineering. This course also addresses the core skills and competencies as set out by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) for construction project managers, construction cost managers and quantity surveyors.
An applicant to the programme will normally be expected to possess at least one of the following:
A minimum of a second-class honors degree in Civil Engineering/ Structural Engineering/ Environmental Engineering/ Quantity Surveying/ Construction Management/ Architecture Engineering/ Construction Engineering/ Construction Technology.
A relevant professional qualification of an equivalent level
Satisfactory independent evidence of working for two years in a position that would normally be occupied by an honors graduate, in a relevant area, which would lead to gaining benefit from the course.
Students whose first language is not English must (a) demonstrate proficiency in the English language equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or (b) provide a letter stating that the language of instruction in the academic programmes previously undertaken has been in English.
No accreditation from Prior Learning (APL) will be given against modules in this programme.
