Quantity Surveying and Construction Management is a challenging, demanding and rewarding profession, which will enable you to contribute to the present and future well-being of a modern and developing Oman. This programme equips you with the core knowledge, skills and special abilities/ expertise in the areas of Quantity Surveying, Costing and Estimation, and Commercial Management relating to the construction industry and familiarizes you with construction, materials and structures, procurement, contracts and project management.
Candidates seeking admission to the programme mentioned should possess a General Education Diploma (Equivalent to 12 years of schooling or equivalent qualification approved by the Ministry of Education, Oman) in the Science stream with at least 65 % mark in both Pure Math and Physics. Further, the student should complete the General Foundation Programme (GFP) or its equivalent.
Students who do not possess a GFP certificate or an equivalent certificate may take MEC placement test. The placement test determines proficiency levels in English, Pure Math and Computing component.
English Language in the GFP can be exempted on producing IELTS (International English Language Testing System) certificate with a score of 5.5 and above, a TOEFL equivalent or an equivalent international certification
Computing component of the GFP can be exempted if the candidate has successfully completed the ICDL or IC3 or any equivalent international diploma in IT skills.
Mathematics component in the GFP (General and Pure Mathematics/Applied Mathematics) modules can be exempted:
- If the candidate secures pass score in Paper 1 of Test of Mathematics for University Admission-TMUA or
- If the candidate secures 3/pass/satisfactory score in Paper 1 of Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP)
A score of 60% and above in MEC placement test in each of the component would enable the student for exemption from General Foundation programme.
As a graduate of this programme, you will typically find technical or management careers within the construction industry, in entry and middle-level roles for Project Management, Quantity Surveying/ Commercial Management and Building Control, Consultancy or Research. You will also be well-qualified to take on more general roles as engineers in the construction industry. This program encourages students to pursue new ventures and explore self-employment opportunities.
