The Technology Transfer office (TTO) at Middle East College was established in collaboration with the Research Council of Oman (TRC). The foremost initiative is to link with National Technology Transfer office in Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Oman(MOCI). TTO is aimed to protect the all types Intellectual property rights and strengthen the link between academic institutions and industry sectors. The mission and vision of this office is to support research, innovation and discovery by governing the IP laws and also protecting the individual human rights in form of creations, inventions and disposition of the license to third parties on commercial basis.
Technology Transfer office (TTO) has been devised in GCC countries to transform the petrochemical economies into technological innovation, knowledge, Research development sectors. Another Significant part of this vision is to attract small and medium enterprises and industrial sectors towards innovation and promotes research. The Technology transfer office helps and supports the students, academic staff, researchers and industry partners for commercialisation.
The functional capabilities of TTO lies with confidentiality and protection of human rights and establish a relation with Industry. The exposure creates a research culture in academic institutions in Oman to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation among students and faculty.
To find investors and startups, the technology transfer office acts as a mediator to connect industry and academia. This will facilitate to have better research outcomes obtained from colleges and universities to help the community and find partnership with industry for novel technologies.
Technology Transfer office at MEC is a focal point between the industry and academia. The major intention towards the establishment of technology transfer office is to support community with the existence of knowledge and act as a center of excellence in production and protection of knowledge.
The initiative approach is carried out with four different sections
- Awareness of Intellectual property rights through workshops, seminars, symposiums and exhibitions
- Supporting Student and staff research in filing and meeting the requirements of IPR
- Protecting IP rights and commercialization of research and innovation outcomes
- Licensing, agreements and joint collaborations
