Middle East College hosted a two day virtual workshop entitled “WIPO virtual study on International Patent Application” organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on June 29-30, 2021. International speakers representing WIPO from Geneva, Switzerland discussed various topics related to intellectual property rights. Research scholars, postgraduate students, faculty, and Technology Transfer officers participated in the event.
The main aim of this event was to involve the research community in discussions of commercialization and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The workshop participants were familiarized with the e-filing process of international patent applications with real-time procedures and gave an overview of the Omani receiving office and PCT. The event was a great success with more than 110 attendees joining this event from various higher educational institutions in Oman.
The event concluded with identifying the upcoming WIPO activities which will be carried out in collaboration with other organizations through their Technology Transfer Offices. These activities will also focus on spreading awareness about international patent applications and commercialization of innovative ideas, among the general public and entrepreneurs.
