Researchers from Middle East College have developed a Covid-19 Monitoring and Alerting System by designing a wearable Internet of Things (IoT) device. The device will be able to pinpoint the location of infected people and monitor their movement during the quarantine period. The team received research funding from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and the research paper was published in the Journal of Informatics in Medicine, published by Elsevier.
An additional feature of the device is that it can detect and monitor Covid-19 symptoms and track any possible infected people by monitoring cough waves and tracking the patient's location. It also monitors the vital signs such as body temperature, heart rate, and oxygen level in the blood thus enabling it to predict the possibility of infection based on the vital signs detected. Additionally, it provides a count of the total number of monitored cases (possibly infected, not infected), confirmed cases and closed cases. The device is equipped with a communication module that is linked to a cellular or data network to ensure a direct connection with the cloud.
This device will help the authorities have a clear idea of the number of cases, the location of those infected, as well as to detect new outbreaks. The system can enable them to take immediate measures to curb the infection rate in the country.
