This program aims to produce graduates with specific related to pathway and generic skills to meet the ever changing technological demands and be also equipped with ability to meet future challenges. This programme aims to equip students with good working knowledge and skills required for the deployment, operation and support of computer networks infrastructure, development of communication services, computer embedded systems and Internet of Things (IoT) systems. The graduates in Networking will have appropriate knowledge and understanding of the concept of computer hardware, the integrity of high availability network infrastructure, network/helpdesk support, the network administrator, the Network architecture, VoIP/Cisco engineer, IoT and cloud computing. In addition to this, the graduates will have appropriate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, principles and theories in specific areas covered by such as Virtualization, network and system administration, cryptography and information assurance, enterprise data centre with WAN connectivity, Ad-hoc and broadband engineering.
Why should I enrol for this programme?
The programme is designed for you to address the requirements that have emerged from challenges which are posed by unprecedented growth in the use of individual or linked computer engineering and the supporting networking technologies. With most of the hardware being activated through software and the employment of a growing range of networking techniques and principles, the scope for integrated design and development of the technologies of software, and networking has increased enormously.
This programme prepares you to not only resolve these issues but also to address the needs of the region incorporating established international practices. The curriculum has a fine mix of recent theory and practice that involves in-depth exposure to real life situations through project work. There is a step-wise progression of evolving complexity due to the increasingly abstract nature of its topics. This course is specially designed for engineers, assistant engineers, technicians, technical supervisors and other personnel, who are seeking to better prepare themselves with the necessary technical skills and knowledge in managing IT network.
Candidates seeking direct admission to the programme mentioned should possess:
A General Education Certificate (Equivalent to 12 years of schooling) or equivalent qualification
A General Foundation Programme (GFP) certificate
Students who do not possess a GFP certificate or an equivalent certificate may take MEC placement test. The placement test determines proficiency levels in English, Pure Math and Computing component.
Depending on their proficiency levels reflected in the Placement Tests, students will be placed in appropriate levels of MEC Foundation Programme.
English Language in the GFP can be exempted on producing IELTS (International English Language Testing System) certificate with a score of 5.5 and above, a TOEFL equivalent or an equivalent international certification.
Computing component of the GFP can be exempted if the candidate has successfully completed the ICDL or IC3 or any equivalent international diploma in IT skills.
A score of 60% and above in MEC placement test in each of the component would enable the student for exemption from the General Foundation Programme.
Graduates of this programme are required to support the country’s developing IT sector in the computer networking pathway. Considering the industrial growth and use of computing devices in the region, as a graduate of this programme, you will find positions as:
Network Planning Consultants,
Computer Network Analysts,
Administrators and Information Technology Managers at entry levels.
Cloud Administrator and Manager
Detecting events/system states using sensors
Transfer of data from sensor to cloud
Sensor data storage
Engineer in cloud data analysis
Engineer in IoT-driven solutions to problems
